June 4, 2011 - Orange County Speedway -
Durham, NC |
After making the move to
dirt late models in 2009, there was a researched plan
behind it all to help broaden and strengthen the driving
abilities of the young driver from Forest Acres, South
Carolina. Two years later on a hot summer night in
Durham, North Carolina - Jordan Anderson got the
opportunity to show what he had learned.
Making his debut race in
the Pro All Stars Series at the Orange County Speedway,
Anderson was greeted with a near 30 car field and a 125
lap race. Early morning practice sessions helped
acquaint the driver and his new crew chief, veteran
racer Bobby Gill to the car and race track. After making
practice runs on both old and new tires, it was time for
qualifying.
With the track temperature
reading 99 degrees and a perfect scenario for these high
powered cars to get loose, Anderson would have the first
chance to take advantage of his dirt track experience.
Rolling off from the grid, the black and white 19 car
powered onto the track and took to the high side for
both laps of qualifying. A lap of 13.95 seconds would be
the recorded time for Anderson, giving him a solid
starting spot of 12th.
When qualifying was over
for all the drivers, the cars took to the track and
parked on the front stretch for an autograph session,
giving fans the opportunity to mingle with their
favorites and meet a new comer to the series. Fans both
young and old had their picture taken beside his car.
With his bright colored cars and autograph cards,
Anderson was a fan favorite among those wandering
through the line of cars.
After the 25 minute
autograph session was over, it was race time. When the
green flag fell on Anderson in his 12th place starting
spot, he took to the high side and began moving towards
the front. A caution on lap five bunched the field back
together, and made for an interesting twist for
Anderson, who had worked up into the 9th spot. The PASS
series uses double file restarts, so this was going to
be another first.
The green flag stayed over
the track until a lap 37 caution. Anderson had been
working the high side of the track and had moved up into
the top 5. When the green flag was back out, he
continued the charge to the front. 10 laps later the #19
was listed as third on the giant scoring tower located
just outside of turn 2. A long green flag run took place
until lap 86, when Anderson who was making a pass on the
2nd place car received contact on the left rear quarter
panel; sending him into a spin cycle through turns 1 and
2. No damage was sustained, but Anderson would be forced
to go to the rear.
With only 40 laps to go,
Anderson was determined to make a run back to the front.
A caution flag with 10 laps to go closed the field back
in together, and the 19 car was back up towards the
front in 7th place. When the race went back green
Anderson continued his march forward and picked up two
more spots before the checkered flag fell. Making his
debut in the PASS series, Jordan Anderson had survived
all the carnage and brought home a solid 5th place
finish to show for the nights effort.
