Summer Shootout: Week 3

Tuesday's Race Recap

LOWE'S MOTOR SPEEDWAY -- Week 3 of the 10 round Summer Shootout Series at Lowe's Motor Speedway took place Tuesday night in Concord, North Carolina. After missing practice Monday night due to an issue in the front suspension of the car, Jordan would have to work hard in order to bring home a good finish Tuesday night.

In his qualifying race Tuesday, Jordan started 7th, and was up to 5th place on lap 4 before getting wrecked by another driving sending Jordan into the grass. When Jordan made his way back on the track he was in the 9th spot, and in order to qualify for the race he had to make his was up to 6th. Jordan did the best he could, but ended up finishing 7th in the qualifying race, forcing him to run in the Consolation race in order to make the feature race later that night.

In the consolation race, Jordan took off from the rest of the field early in the race leading most of the beginning laps, until getting passed by another competitor and finishing 2nd in the consolation race. The finishing position was good enough to transfer Jordan to the Feature race that night. This was a blessing because many drivers ended up going home because they did no finish high enough in the Consolation race.

When the green flag fell on the Feature race after waiting out an hour long rain delay, the field was off. Because of his troubles in qualifying Jordan was starting from the 20th position. On the first lap, Jordan's night almost went bad quickly. Two cars in front of him got sideways and collided, sending one straight into the air in front of him. Jordan just narrowly escaped being involved. On the restart Jordan started picking off positions and did the best with he could with an ill-handling car. Jordan was able to bring his car home in the 15th position in one piece, which still kept Jordan in the top 5 in points going into Week 4 of the Summer Shootout Series.

There will be fireworks on and off the track Tuesday, July 3, and Wednesday, July 4, as Lowe's Motor Speedway celebrates Independence Day with a doubleheader. A giant fireworks display will follow a full slate of Legends Car, Bandolero and Thunder Roadster racing during each of the Hanes ComfortZone Summer Shootout Nights.

The wild-and-crazy CRASHCar Trailer Race of Destruction will be part of the action on Tuesday night while the extremely popular School Buses return to the track Wednesday night. Gates open at 5 p.m. each night with feature racing at 7:30. Fireworks will follow the racing programs at approximately 10:30 p.m. For information, call 1-800-455-FANS.
