Hickory Motor Speedway 9-9-06
Late Model Truck
It was a great run, but once again I had some more tough
luck.
I had 2 great rounds of practice Saturday leading up to the race that night,
I got the truck where it needed to be, and I was on top of my game also.
Right before it was time for qualifying It started to rained, and during the
rain delay we checked the ride height on the truck, and guess what, The
truck was a half inch to low! After making many major changes to the truck,
It was now where it "legally" needed to be. It was now time for qualifying,
I had no idea how the truck was going to handle. I went out and qualified
9th out of the 14 truck field, to say the least I was disappointed. When the
race started I quickly started moving up through the field. By the time the
race was at lap 10 I was in 6th spot. After the 2nd of 4 cautions my entire
shifter (not just the knob, the entire shifter!) broke off at the base. I
was ,luckily, stuck in 4th gear (usually I start In 3rd on restarts then go
to 4th gear). I had to use my head and the restarts so I wouldn't get left
In the dust. By the end of the race I was in the 4th position and catching
the leaders, I just ran out of time. But that’s not the end of it, because
the original winner of the race was disqualified I was given a 3rd place
finish.
I just have to thank God for keeping me and all the other competitors safe
and all my great sponsors and my family!
