After being on his roof
just two weeks earlier after an early race incident
in the NDRA touring series event at Cleveland County
Speedway, Jordan Anderson was seeking redemption at
the famed Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North
Carolina in his #19 Forest Acres sponsored Dirt Late
Model.
After being rained out
two weeks at the speedway, both Anderson and the
crew were anxious about getting back onto the track
so famously known as the 'Carolina's Action Track'.
During practice the #19 car of Anderson looked good
as he used the valuable practice time to search for
a line on the track that would suit his car during
qualifying later in the night.
Later in the evening as
the sun set, the stage was being set for a perfect
night of racing; a smooth track with a great racing
surface, the grandstand full of fans, a field full
of strong race cars, and beautiful weather all made
the night enjoyable for everyone there. During
qualifying Anderson went on to grab his first pole
at the speedway, giving him the opportunity to get
both his first pole and first win at Carolina
Speedway all in the final race of the year.
As the green flag flew
over the full field of cars, the moon was just
beginning to rise above the backdrop of the city of
Charlotte in the background. On the start Anderson
slipped into line in the second spot behind the
leader as the high line was the place to be Friday
night. Stalking his every move, Anderson ran nose to
tail with the leader the first half of the race
before searching around the track for a better line
trying to get as much out of his car as possible.
With 5 laps to go, the
leader slipped up and ran high coming out of turn 4
giving Anderson just enough to pull back to his
bumper. With the leader sliding around the high
line, and Anderson's #19 glued on the bottom this
was shaping up to be an exciting finish.
On the last lap as the
two cars approached the final corner, a slower
lapped car was making his way through the bottom of
turn 3 and 4 as the two top drivers shuffled for
position. The leader went high, Anderson went low;
somehow as there was barely enough space to fit a
car between the inside wall and the lap car. The
fans stood to their feet, cheering, this was going
to be a photo finish.
As the two cars made
their way through the corner, Anderson, the lap car,
and the leader made it three wide coming through the
corner. Trying to get back into the throttle
earlier, the leader pushed high giving Anderson the
opportunity to pull ahead. As they exited the corner
racing towards the checkered flag, Anderson slid in
front of the other driver taking the lead going on
to capture his first dirt late model fin ever to the
excitement of the fans.
In victory lane an
enthusiastic Anderson went on to say "What an
incredible blessing this was tonight. For this to be
the final race of the year, and to get my first pole
and win at this track, it really was a perfect
night" said Anderson. "The hand of the Lord was at
work tonight, as that's the only way I can describe
that last lap pass."
With this being his
first year on dirt Jordan Anderson told of his
season and how everything learned came to use in the
race. "This entire season has been a learning
experience, treating each race as a series of events
you could say, that have allowed me to become a
better driver through persevering and having that
never-give-up desire to win attitude." said
Anderson. "Looking back on the year I wouldn't
change a thing, it's been such a blast this year to
learn how to race on dirt and travel to all these
tracks in the area. I truly feel that looking back
on the year, and where I was as a driver at the
beginning of the season, that I have stepped up my
program as a whole." |
