From the heart of the
pastor:
“This hope
we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure
and steadfast and one which enters within the veil,
where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us” (Heb.
6:19f.).
Where have you placed
your hope? Who or what is your soul’s anchor? Every
Christian hope is tethered to Jesus. Christians
hope for Christ’s early return, for fresh victories
over sin and for their consistent transformation
into Jesus’ image.
Christians’ hopes are so
certain that they willingly abandon themselves in
their love for their soul’s Anchor. They place
every day of their lives at the feet of Jesus as a
sacrifice of their love. Believers know that the
same God who saved them will always lead them in His
triumph in Christ Jesus (II Cor. 2:14).
At the age of
seventy-five, Abraham received a promise from God.
Though he did not receive the blessed fulfillment
until he was one hundred, he did not waiver. His
hope was moored to the immutable God who cannot lie
so he never allowed anything or anyone to arrest his
hold on God (Heb. 6:18). Abraham knew he would
inherit God’s promises; he just did not know when.
No man can point to any
promise God has broken. Moses’ serpent mastered the
sorcerers’ serpents. Jericho’s walls collapsed and
Hannah’s womb was fruited with Samuel. God wants you
assured of His steadfastness. He does not want you
to drift or become agitated by the winds of change.
Your Lord God is not limited to worldly means and He
is not limited by earthly possibilities. He is not
man – He is God!
On the Sea of Galilee,
nature did not calm the storm. On the Sea of
Galilee, nature did not still the wind. On the Sea
of Galilee, “He arose, and rebuked the winds
and the sea; and it became perfectly calm. And the
men marveled, saying, ‘What kind of a man is this,
that even the winds and the sea obey Him?’” (Mt.
8:26f.).
God fulfills your less
remarkable desires in order to encourage your trust
in the eternal hope He sets before you. Because God
is perfect, every confidence you have in God will be
met. Is Jesus the anchor of your soul?
Unseen anchors safeguard
the world’s grandest ships. You do not see Jesus
today, but you will one day. He has entered
the heavens as the forerunner for all Christians who
will follow.
“For a child will be
born to us, a son will be given to us; and the
government will rest on His shoulders; and His name
will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no
end to the increase of His government or of peace” (Isa.
9:6f.).
