From the heart of the
pastor:
What happens to a person
receiving vast privileges, yet neglecting to act
responsibly in regard to those privileges? Jesus
says, “From everyone who has been given much shall
much be required; and to whom they entrusted much,
of him they will ask all the more” (Lk. 12:48).
Why would anyone neglect
to act responsibly regarding the grand privileges of
being made in God’s image, imago Dei?
Perhaps he is ignorant of being made in God’s
image. Perhaps he does not know how to live as God
purposes His image-bearers to live. Or perhaps he
would prefer just to continue exhibiting man’s image
rather than God’s image because it assures societal
acceptance and greater rewards in this life.
Few people recognize the
significance of being made in the image of God and
far fewer appreciate the consequences of neglecting
to example God’s image. God’s image makes a
difference to Him even if it does not to you, “for
the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous
God” (Dt. 4:24).
Do you realize that
“this world is passing away?” (I Cor. 7:31). This
creation has within its design a planned
obsolescence – it is transitory (I Jn. 2:17).
Your God’s fire is
jealous for every created thing intent upon usurping
His position in the midst of His creation. The
devil assists man’s desire to believe that he will
find heaven on earth. God says that only the man
who is interested in his eternal future will be
willing to part with this world’s offerings (II Cor.
4:16ff.).
God’s promise to all who
neglect their privileges in order to capture the
immediacy of this world is a consuming fire. His
wrath is hell’s afflictor. You overlook your
Creator at your own peril.
“It is a terrifying
thing to fall into the hands of the living God”
(Heb. 10:31).
