Unworthy World; Hebrews 11

From the heart of the pastor:

“Men of whom the world was not worthy” (Heb. 11:38).

This world is a site worthy of people who fail to live in harmony with God’s word.  People consistently and habitually exercising trust in the Lord Jesus Christ are men of whom this world is not worthy.  Is this world worthy of you?  Perhaps the more poignant question is, “Does your lifestyle reflect a person for whom this world, rather than the next world, is designed?”

God allows occasions to enter your life in order to provide opportunities for you to practice your faith. You will never employ faith perfectly in this life.  Nonetheless, though your faith is imperfect, its deployment confirms its existence and the worthiness of its object.

Chapter 11 of Hebrews brings to your mind the value God places upon those titans of the faith who trusted in Him alone:
·        Rahab was worth more to God than the entire city of Jericho
·        Samson was worth more to God than an army of Philistines
·        David was worth more to God than a giant named Goliath
·        Elijah was worth more to God than 450 prophets of Baal
·        Esther and Mordecai were worth more to God than Haman and all of Persia

Your obsession with this world forces you to forget that it shall perish whereas your soul will not. Men of whom this world is not worthy are blessings to this world.  They seek to enculturate their culture with the spirit and language of Scripture.  They possess and offer depth to a shallow world.

You can identify men of whom this world is not worthy. They are unafraid to proclaim, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Josh. 24:15).  They are willing to separate themselves from unbelievers and confess their sins (Neh. 9:2).  They stand in the gap between a society and its most darling sins declaring, “If I perish, I perish” (Esth. 4:16).

One of the surest denominators for men of whom this world is not worthy is that they delay gratification for the cause of Christ.  They forego the present in order to seize eternal abundance. Are you a person of whom this world is not worthy?
