Hebrews 11
From the heart of the
pastor:
“Without
faith it is impossible to please Him” (Heb.
11:6).
Faith is the conduit whereby man becomes pleasing to
God and pleases God. When the Israelites came to the
cusp of Canaan, the Promised Land, they refused to
go in and take the land that God promised He would
give to the sons of Israel. Why? “They were not
able to enter because of unbelief” (Heb. 3:19).
They heard God’s promises and they had experienced
the adequacy of His provisions, yet “the word they
heard did not profit them, because it was not united
by faith in those who heard” (Heb. 4:2).
Paul addresses this very matter in his letter to the
church in Thessalonica, saying, “And for this reason
we also constantly thank God that when you received
from us the word of God’s message, you accepted it
not as the word of men, but for what it really is,
the word of God, which also performs its work in you
who believe” (I Thess. 2:13). Have you considered
how faith functions in your life?
God identifies faith’s functions in the life of the
Christian:
• Justified by faith
• Sanctified by faith
• Cleansed by faith
• Walk by faith
• Live by faith
• Fight the fight of faith
• Overcome the world by faith
God says, “Whatever is not from faith is sin” (Ro.
14:23).
How pleasing are you to God? God’s love for His
children never changes. His love cannot increase or
decrease. Nonetheless, the breadth of the pleasure
He has in His relationship with you is tied to the
fullness of your exercise of faith.
How committed are you to pleasing God? Are you
pursuing your commitment by trusting with all your
heart, soul, mind and strength in the Lord Jesus
Christ? Is your trust evidenced in your life,
speech and work?
